GCC leaders to meet Donald Trump in New York over Iran conflict

Leaders of the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states are scheduled to meet United States President Donald Trump in New York on Tuesday. The meeting, held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, comes as the conflict between the US-Israel alliance and Iran enters its seventh month.

Trump has indicated he is facing a 'big decision' regarding the war and expressed a desire to speak directly with GCC leaders from Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. The discussions are expected to address the US-Israel war on Iran and the ongoing conflict involving Houthi rebels in Yemen.

Gulf leaders are approaching the summit with two primary concerns: the risk of further military escalation and the potential for reduced US security protection. While the GCC previously helped persuade Trump to avoid a major escalation in August, the current situation is marked by increased instability, including attacks on Saudi energy infrastructure by Iranian proxies and the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
