Gulf states and US launch projects to bypass Strait of Hormuz

Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are accelerating investment in alternative oil and gas transport infrastructure, including new pipelines and a major port and container terminal on the Emirate’s east coast. The goal is to lessen reliance on the Strait of Hormuz, which faces heightened risk from Iranian missile threats.

The United States, working with regional partners—Syria, Jordan, Turkey, Lebanon and Egypt—has announced a plan to develop land‑based logistics corridors that could reduce the strategic importance of the strait within two years. The initiative seeks to diversify energy and trade routes, improve supply‑chain resilience, and mitigate price spikes caused by recent blockades of Hormuz.

Together, these efforts reflect a broader push by Gulf nations and the United States to secure energy shipments through diversified routes amid ongoing regional tensions.
