Egypt foreign exchange and remittance trends
Egyptian foreign exchange markets have seen significant activity, with a notable rise in remittances from Egyptians working abroad. According to Central Bank of Egypt data, remittances reached approximately $29.7 billion between January and July 2026, representing a 28.1% increase compared to the same period in 2025. This growth is attributed to the return of flows to official banking channels following exchange rate reforms initiated in March 2024.
In the currency markets, exchange rates for major currencies against the Egyptian Pound have shown fluctuations. The US Dollar has recently traded around 51.86 EGP for purchase and 51.99 EGP for sale. The Euro has also experienced movement, with rates recorded near 59.65 EGP for purchase and 59.82 EGP for sale. Other major currencies, including the British Pound and various Arab currencies like the Saudi Riyal and Kuwaiti Dinar, continue to be monitored closely by the market.
Additionally, Egypt's foreign exchange reserves reached a record $57.21 billion in August, up from $56.29 billion in July, following a $920 million increase.
