Gumi and Gyeongsan secure funding for disaster prevention projects

Gumi and Gyeongsan cities in South Korea have secured significant funding for disaster prevention projects to mitigate risks from heavy rainfall, flooding, and landslides.

Gumi City has been selected for the 2027 disaster-prone area improvement project, securing 63.5 billion won for two specific districts. The Dogae District will receive 41.5 billion won to renovate small rivers and reservoirs, install check dams to prevent debris flows, and build new drainage pump stations. The Gyodong District will receive 22.0 billion won to widen river channels and install upstream check dams to prevent soil runoff and flooding.

Gyeongsan City has secured 31.0 billion won for the Dongseo District in Hayang-eup and Yongcheon-ri in Wachon-myeon. This project aims to resolve chronic flooding in low-lying areas caused by structural drainage limitations. By 2031, the city plans to install two pump stations and renovate 3.15 km of inflow channels to protect residential and agricultural lands.
