Gumi City conducts disaster drills and expands ramen festival
Gumi City has undertaken several initiatives to enhance public safety and stimulate the local economy. On the 27th, the city conducted the ‘2026 Disaster Response Safety Korea Training’ at the KV Materials site within the Gumi National Industrial Complex. The drill simulated a complex disaster involving simultaneous fire and hazardous chemical leaks to test the coordination between 20 agencies, including the police, fire department, and chemical disaster prevention centers.
In an effort to revitalize the city's old downtown area, Gumi is also expanding its annual ramen festival. Following a successful previous event that drew 350,000 visitors, the upcoming 2026 festival aims to increase the number of participating restaurants and improve accessibility through shuttle services from major metropolitan areas. The city plans to invest up to 10 billion won over five years into the ‘Munhwa-ro Autonomous Commercial District Vitalization Project’ to transform the area into a permanent tourism hub.
