Gumi industrial pivot drives surge in high-tech education demand
Gumi is undergoing a significant industrial transformation as it establishes itself as a national hub for semiconductors, defense, and robotics. This shift is driven by massive investments, including a 19 trillion won commitment from Samsung for next-generation robot mother factories and AI data centers.
The industrial pivot is triggering a surge in interest in local educational institutions. Gumi Electronics Technical High School reported a massive increase in interest for its 2027 admissions, with pre-applications doubling compared to the previous year. Similarly, Kumoh National Institute of Technology and Korea Polytechnic University Gumi Campus have seen rising competition rates, particularly in advanced technology departments like smart mobility and semiconductor electronics.
This trend reflects a growing demand for skilled technical talent capable of working in the city's new high-tech clusters, which include semiconductor material and component specializations and defense innovation clusters.
