Guna mola art exhibition debuts at El Dorado International Airport

The Museo de la Mola (MuMo) and the digital initiative Volarte have launched a new digital exhibition at El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá, Colombia. This second collaboration aims to showcase the cultural heritage and worldview of the Guna people from Panama to international travelers.

The exhibition focuses on figurative molas, which are intricate textile designs representing animals, plants, and various elements of nature. These pieces serve as more than aesthetic objects; they act as historical and cultural archives that transmit the memory, identity, and ancestral knowledge of the Guna community and their relationship with Mother Earth.

Volarte’s strategy involves using technology to bring art and culture into high-traffic public spaces, democratizing access to heritage. Paola Bahamón, general director of Volarte, noted that the project seeks to create bridges between art, culture, and technology, moving the mola beyond traditional exhibition settings to reach a global audience.
