Gundam X 30th Anniversary special screening held in Tokyo

A special screening event was held at TOHO Cinemas Ikebukuro on September 27, 2026, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the anime series ‘Mobile Suit Gundam X’. The event featured two talk shows following the screenings, hosted by voice actor Wataru Takagi, who voiced the protagonist Garrod Ran.

During the sessions, director Shinji Takamatsu, character designer Masayoshi Nishimura, and mechanical designer Junya Ishigaki shared production memories and insights. The participants discussed the selection of specific episodes for the screening and the intense production environment of the time.

Director Takamatsu also shared behind-the-scenes details regarding the series' themes, noting that the concept of ‘Newtypes’ was a suggestion from series compositor Hiroyuki Kawasaki to ensure the show remained connected to the broader Gundam franchise. Takamatsu reflected on his personal connection to the character Jamil Neate and how his desire to protect the Gundam legacy influenced the story's conclusion.
