GungHo Online Entertainment rejects generative AI for Trails in the Sky localization

GungHo Online Entertainment has announced that it will not use generative AI to accelerate the localization process for the upcoming Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter remake. Company leadership emphasized that the “human touch” of translators is essential to maintaining the complex world-building, character voices, and consistent terminology established by developer Falcom.

GungHo America CEO Fumiaki Shiraishi stated that the entire localization and asset process is handled manually to ensure consistency across the series' extensive cast and universe. The company noted that players expect work created by people, and even if AI were used for support, the workflow would still require multiple rounds of human review and editing.

In a related move to improve series consistency, GungHo has released a significant patch for Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter. The update addresses fan feedback regarding terminology discrepancies, such as adjusting mechanical device names to align with future titles and correcting the pronunciation of the Liberl region to ensure continuity across the franchise.
