Gunma, Japan hosts cabbage-themed summer festivals

The Konnyaku Park summer festival, held from August 11‑16, 2026 in Kumagaya, Gunma Prefecture, offers free admission and a range of activities such as watermelon and shaved‑ice eating contests, a paid cabbage‑carry‑unlimited event (¥1,000 per session) and a talk show by local celebrity Shusei Nakayama on August 15.

The Jōshū Village Station direct‑sale market in Shibukawa, Gunma, runs a month‑long "Cabbage Panic" from August 1‑30, featuring the rare "嬬恋キャベツ 419" variety. Participants can compete in cabbage‑carry‑unlimited and bucket‑stacking challenges for ¥500 per round, with additional tasting sessions and limited‑edition menu items.
