Gunma woman cleared of charges in brother-in-law's death

A 41-year-old woman in Shibukawa, Gunma Prefecture, has been cleared of charges regarding the death of her brother-in-law. The Maebashi District Public Prosecutors Office announced on August 26 that she would not be prosecuted due to insufficient evidence and the difficulty of proving the facts of the case.

The incident occurred in February 2025, when the woman was arrested on suspicion of assaulting her husband's 44-year-old brother by kicking him in the chest and abdomen, leading to his death. Following the incident, the woman had contacted emergency services, claiming the man had fallen from a roof; however, the victim was found lying on the floor of the entranceway rather than under a roof.
