Gunmen attack Abia police station, killing two officers

Gunmen attacked the Uratta Police Division in Aba, Abia State, killing two police officers and injuring three others, including a civilian. The assault, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, involved the use of explosives that damaged parts of the station and set a patrol van and other vehicles ablaze.

Reports indicate the attackers may have targeted the police armoury, though authorities stated no firearms or ammunition were stolen. However, some sources suggest police uniforms were taken during the incident. Abia State Commissioner of Police Wilfred Afolabi and Governor Alex Otti visited the scene and the injured officers at the Abia State University Teaching Hospital.

The police command has launched an investigation and intensified security operations to apprehend the perpetrators. This incident follows a similar attack on the same station in February 2021.
