Gunnislake man jailed for 38 weeks over prolific shoplifting

David Knight, a 45-year-old man from Gunnislake, has been sentenced to 38 weeks in prison following 16 shop theft offences. The thefts, which occurred between July and October, involved Morrisons, Co-op, and Home Bargains, with a total value of £1,200.

Knight appeared at Plymouth Magistrates’ Court, where his sentence was comprised of 30 weeks for the shoplifting offences and an additional eight weeks for breaching the conditions of a suspended sentence.

Devon and Cornwall Police noted that the offending caused significant local disruption. Inspector Paul Laity credited local businesses for providing the evidence necessary to build the case. The police continue to prioritize retail crime through partnerships such as Plymouth Against Retail Crime (PARC).
