Gunpo City announces major administrative reorganization

Gunpo City is implementing a major administrative reorganization to support its ninth elected administration's goals, focusing on urban redevelopment, youth empowerment, and administrative efficiency.

A key feature of the restructuring is the creation of the Urban Redevelopment Bureau, which will centralize functions related to old downtown redevelopment and the renovation of the first-generation Sanbon New Town. Additionally, a Youth Sovereignty Office will be established directly under the Vice Mayor to manage housing, jobs, and startup policies aimed at attracting young residents.

The city is also addressing environmental issues by launching the Environmental Water Management Headquarters, which will integrate climate change, parks, water, and resource circulation. To improve efficiency, the city will abolish the ‘Daedong’ system, which had been in place since 2015, and reintegrate its welfare and urban environment functions into the main city administration.

The new structure will expand from 5 bureaus and 3 offices to 6 bureaus, 1 headquarters, and 4 offices, increasing the total number of departments and teams. The city plans to request a special session of the City Council on the 22nd to process the necessary ordinances, with the new system expected to officially launch in October.
