Gunpo City introduces barrier-free kiosks for parcel lockers

Gunpo City has replaced the terminals of its existing unmanned parcel lockers with ‘barrier-free (BF) kiosks’ to improve information accessibility for the elderly and people with disabilities. This marks the first time a local government in South Korea has implemented kiosks verified by the National Information Society Agency (NIA) as priority purchase intelligent information products.

The new terminals feature several accessibility enhancements, including lowered screens for wheelchair users, Braille keypads, screen magnification, volume control, and earphone jacks. These upgrades aim to fulfill the intent of the ‘Act on the Prohibition of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities, Remedy against Infringement of Their Rights, etc.’ by removing digital barriers.

The parcel lockers, currently located at Geumjeong Station and the Gunpo 1-dong Administrative Welfare Center, provide a secure, non-face-to-face service for single-person households and women to prevent crime. The service allows for 48 hours of free use and handles approximately 3,600 transactions annually.
