Gunpo City has announced the commencement of its third phase of sewage pipe maintenance to prevent sinkholes and urban flooding. The project aims to replace or repair 21.5 kilometers of sewage pipes that are over 20 years old across the Sanbon, Dangjeong, Daeyami, Bugok, and Samsung sewage treatment areas.
The initiative involves a total budget of 29.6 billion won, which includes 17.8 billion won in national funds, 5.9 billion won in provincial funds, and 5.9 billion won in municipal funds. The city plans to complete the detailed design by 2026, begin main construction in 2027, and achieve final completion by 2028.
This third phase follows the successful completion of the first and second phases, which covered 7.1 kilometers of pipes in the Sanbon and Dangjeong areas. By 2028, the city intends to have overhauled a total of 28.6 kilometers of its urban underground drainage system to ensure structural stability and improved drainage capacity.
