Gunpo City partners to protect Surisan Mountain from forest fires
Gunpo City has entered into a mutual cooperation agreement with the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) Gyeonggi Headquarters, the Gunpo Fire Station, and the Gyeonggi Community Chest of Korea to protect Surisan Mountain. The initiative aims to prevent complex disasters by addressing the intersection of forest fires and power grid safety.
Due to the geographical characteristics of Surisan, which is adjacent to urban areas and contains numerous power lines, the agreement seeks to mitigate risks where forest fires could damage transmission lines or where power equipment could spark fires. The partnership will focus on removing hazards near electrical facilities and installing early suppression equipment, such as automatic fire extinguishers, in deep forest areas.
As part of the collaboration, KEPCO has donated 10 million won to the Gyeonggi Community Chest of Korea. These funds will be used by Gunpo City and the Gunpo Fire Station to identify fire-prone areas and deploy specialized firefighting equipment.
