Gunther Fehlinger, chairman of the Austrian Committee for NATO Enlargement, has urged the European Union to immediately freeze all EU funds controlled by the political leadership of Republika Srpska.

This call follows an announcement by SNSD President Milorad Dodik that salaries for education workers in Republika Srpska will increase by 10 percent starting in January 2027. Fehlinger expressed concern that such promises might be an attempt to secure political loyalty using public funds, particularly given the entity's growing debt and fiscal challenges.

Fehlinger requested that the EU suspend direct financial support to institutions he believes undermine the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He also called for a detailed audit of previously funded projects to investigate potential misuse of EU resources. He argued that future financial assistance should be strictly conditioned on the rule of law, fiscal transparency, and the respect for the sovereignty of Bosnia and Herzegovina, while ensuring that humanitarian aid and independent civil society remain protected.
