Indonesia advances renewable energy and infrastructure projects

Indonesia is advancing several key energy and infrastructure initiatives. In Central Java, the development of the Gunung Ungaran geothermal power plant (PLTP) is being approached with a focus on protecting water resources, biodiversity, and cultural heritage sites like Candi Gedong Songo. Experts emphasize that geothermal energy is vital for a stable energy transition but requires comprehensive hydrological and social studies.

To support industrial decarbonization, PT PLN (Persero) is providing verified green electricity to 59 national corporations. Through products like Renewable Energy Certificates (REC) and Green Energy as a Service (GEAS), PLN aims to ensure energy traceability and meet international standards. Additionally, the Indonesian Solar Energy Association (AESI) is pushing for a 100 GWp solar power program to enhance national energy security and rural electrification.

In the transportation sector, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) has begun operating nine new direct crossing guard stations (JPL) in the Jakarta and Bandung operational areas to improve safety at level crossings, following recommendations from the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT).
