Gunungsari produces 20 varieties of high-quality local durian
Gunungsari District in Serang Regency has become a notable producer of high-quality durian, featuring 20 distinct local varieties. According to local farmer Iip Sujatna, these varieties include Sikali, Si Kasur, Si Layung, Si Ketan, Si Kunir, Si Bantal, Si Unyil, Si Bedul, Si Mayor, Si Nyai, Si Kecapi, Si Kapal, Si Kelapa, Si Panjang Gagang, Si Blimbing, and Si Gadis.
The durians are highly sought after during harvest season due to their sweet, creamy texture and small seeds. Prices vary based on size and type, ranging from Rp45,000 to several hundred thousand rupiah per fruit.
Local farmers follow a unique harvesting tradition known as ‘durian geblugan,’ where they wait for the fruit to fall naturally from the trees rather than picking them manually. This local specialty offers potential for both agricultural income and agritourism development in the region.
