Guo Pei designs embroidered ensemble for Ivanka Trump

Designer Guo Pei created a powder blue dress and jacket for Ivanka Trump to wear during the White House arrival ceremony for Chinese President Xi Jinping. The ensemble featured Eastern influences and required more than 1,000 hours of hand embroidery.

Guo Pei, a Beijing-born designer who gained international fame for creating Rihanna’s 2015 Met Gala gown, noted that while she and Trump have collaborated previously, this was the first time Trump had been photographed in one of her commissioned designs. The public appearance occurred shortly before the debut of Guo Pei’s solo exhibition, ‘Guo Pei: Garden of Ethereal Realms,’ at the China National Silk Museum in Hangzhou.
