Guri City re-evaluates Sano-dong logistics complex development
Guri City Mayor Shin Dong-hwa has announced a full re-evaluation of the Sano-dong E-commerce Logistics Complex development project. The decision follows two consecutive failed preliminary feasibility studies that deemed the project's economic viability insufficient.
Originally conceived in 2020 as part of the government’s ‘Korean New Deal Smart Logistics System,’ the large-scale project aimed to transform approximately 960,000 square meters in Sano-dong into a growth hub. The plan included advanced logistics facilities, a techno-valley, and the relocation of the Guri Agricultural and Marine Products Wholesale Market.
The Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) recently advised the city that securing feasibility in future studies would be difficult, citing low benefit-cost ratios, rising development costs, and high vacancy rates in nearby knowledge industry centers.
While the city is reconsidering the current implementation method, Mayor Shin emphasized that the fundamental goal of developing Sano-dong into a self-sufficient industrial growth center remains unchanged. The city plans to consult with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and LH to find a more realistic alternative that supports job creation and local industry relocation.
