Guri-Namyangju Education Office launches training for new school meal workers

The Guri-Namyangju Office of Education has implemented a specialized, three-step training program to help new school meal service workers adapt to their roles and prevent early resignation. The initiative comes in response to nationwide labor shortages and high turnover rates in school cafeterias.

The training system integrates educational videos titled ‘First Steps for New Meal Service Workers,’ a guidebook called ‘School Meal Adaptation Guide,’ and hands-on field tours of actual cooking facilities. The curriculum covers the entire meal preparation process, including ingredient inspection, cooking, serving, cleaning, and hygiene and safety protocols.

To ensure accessibility, the educational materials will be made available on the office’s website and YouTube channel to assist both new hires and substitute workers. The program aims to reduce the burden on school staff by standardizing training and providing practical experience before workers are officially deployed to their assigned schools.
