Guro-gu designated as a new Women-Friendly City

Guro-gu, located in Seoul, has been newly designated as a ‘Women-Friendly City’ following an evaluation by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family for the 2026 designation cycle. This designation recognizes communities that ensure balanced participation of men and women in local policy-making and improve environments for women's economic and social activities, safety, and childcare.

The district was recognized for its efforts across five key objectives: establishing a foundation for gender equality policies, expanding women's economic and social participation, enhancing community safety, creating family-friendly childcare environments, and strengthening community activity capabilities. Notable initiatives include the launch of the first ‘Women-Friendly City Supporters’ group in January, which allows residents to identify local issues and participate in policy improvements.

Moving forward, Guro-gu plans to expand life-oriented projects, including support for women's employment and entrepreneurship, the creation of safe return-home environments, and the strengthening of community care systems. The official designation agreement ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Seoul Women and Family Foundation on December 2.
