Gurpreet Singh Sekhon joins Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab
Gurpreet Singh Sekhon, a figure previously associated with the Nabha jailbreak case, has joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) along with thousands of supporters. The induction took place during a large gathering in Zira, Ferozepur district, where Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann officially welcomed Sekhon into the party.
Chief Minister Mann stated that the move reflects growing public faith in the AAP’s performance-based politics, citing achievements such as the establishment of 1,100 Mohalla Clinics and electricity relief for 90% of households. The AAP maintains that Sekhon and his followers were drawn to the party’s pro-people policies.
The induction has drawn sharp criticism from the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), which accused the ruling AAP of adopting a soft stance toward criminals. The SAD labeled the administration a ‘Gangster Govt’ in response to Sekhon’s entry, ahead of the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections.
