Gurugram infrastructure criticized following heavy rainfall and flooding

Congress General Secretary and MP Randeep Singh Surjewala has criticized the BJP-led Haryana government and Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini following severe waterlogging and traffic congestion in Gurugram. Surjewala questioned the effectiveness of Rs 1,400 crore previously allocated for infrastructure, stating that the city's systems have ‘collapsed’ following heavy rainfall.

In response to the flooding and road blockages, the District Disaster Management Authority of Gurugram issued an advisory on August 25, 2026. The advisory recommended that corporate offices, government institutions, and private schools advise employees to work from home to mitigate traffic congestion and allow civic agencies to carry out necessary repairs on roads and drains.

Surjewala highlighted reports of stranded school buses, flooded streets, and instances of people being electrocuted, characterizing the situation as chaos where citizens are left to fend for themselves.
