Gurugram police bust fake call centre targeting US citizens

Gurugram police have dismantled an unauthorized fake call centre in the Palam Vihar area of J Block, resulting in the arrest of 11 individuals. The syndicate targeted US citizens by impersonating customer service representatives for well-known American brands.

To extort money, the group used scare tactics, claiming victims' mobile phones had viruses or technical glitches. They further intimidated targets by presenting fraudulent Federal Trade Commission (FTC) letters. Victims were reportedly defrauded of between USD 10,000 and USD 20,000 per instance, with funds transferred to foreign bank accounts or collected via gift vouchers and card numbers.

Investigators identified Pritpal Singh as the team leader. The operation, which had been running out of a rented house for approximately two to three months, utilized X-Lite Dialler software and FaceTime to conduct scams in English. Police seized nine laptops, 20 mobile phones, various electronic accessories, and several vehicles during the raid.
