Haryana electricity strike ends after power restoration in Gurugram and Nuh
A three-day strike by Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) employees has ended following negotiations between the Joint Action Committee and state officials, including Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Energy Minister Anil Vij. The strike, which began on the night of October 21, was organized to protest the Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission’s decision to grant a 25-year parallel distribution license to a private company, Eleven Power, for the Gurugram and Nuh regions.
The industrial and residential sectors in Gurugram, Faridabad, and Nuh experienced significant disruptions, including blackouts lasting over 24 to 46 hours. These outages affected municipal water supplies, industrial operations, and daily domestic life, prompting thousands of complaints and various road blockades by frustrated residents.
Following the discussions, the state government reportedly assured employees that private companies would not be permitted entry into the Haryana electricity sector and that parallel distribution licenses would be canceled. Power supply has since been restored to the majority of affected areas.
