Gurugram sinkhole forms at Iffco Chowk after sewer line collapse

A large sinkhole, measuring approximately 10 feet by 10 feet, formed on the service road near Iffco Chowk in Gurugram on Tuesday afternoon. The incident occurred on the Delhi-Jaipur side of the road, near the Westin Hotel, following heavy rains that caused widespread waterlogging in the city.

Preliminary inspections by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) suggest the sinkhole was caused by the collapse of a 1000mm master sewer line managed by the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA). Leakage from this line led to soil erosion and subsequent road settlement. The affected sewer line is part of a network connecting Ambience Mall and Rajiv Chowk.

Authorities have barricaded the damaged section and closed two service lanes to ensure public safety. Repair work on the sewage line was scheduled to begin on Wednesday morning, with officials aiming to complete the repairs as quickly as possible.
