Gurupi Expedition Mini-Doc Launched by Brazil's Amazon River Mouth Observatory

The Amazon River Mouth Observatory (ARMO) released a short documentary that follows the Gurupi Expedition, a scientific and sailing mission carried out along the northeast coast of Pará. The expedition, led by oceanographer Nils Asp of the Federal University of Pará, travelled about 112 km from Viseu to Augusto Corrêa, using the OC4 sailing vessel and a Hawaiian canoe to collect sediment, water and microorganism samples. The film highlights the project's challenges, the use of sustainable navigation methods, and the collaborative effort of researchers, scientists and sailors. The documentary is available on ARMO's Instagram and YouTube channels.

The Gurupi Expedition is presented as a pioneering Brazilian initiative that combines oceanographic research with low‑impact sailing, aiming to improve understanding of the dynamics of the Amazon River mouth and its coastal ecosystems.
