Gurupi man sentenced to 57 years for femicide and body concealment

Cleofas Rodrigues Cardoso has been sentenced to over 57 years in prison for femicide and the concealment of a corpse in Gurupi. The verdict, delivered following a trial involving the Public Ministry of Tocantins (MPTO), recognized the authorship and materiality of both crimes.

The court applied aggravating factors to the sentence, including the use of asphyxiation, methods that hindered the victim's defense, and the fact that the crime occurred while the victim's three children were present in the home. Additionally, the judge noted that at the time of the murder, the defendant was serving an open sentence for a previous domestic violence crime committed against the same woman.

The incident occurred in November 2025 in the Novo Horizonte sector. After the killing, the defendant kept the victim's body on the couple's bed for approximately 24 hours before wrapping it in a sheet and burying it in a nearby wooded area. The defendant will begin serving his sentence immediately under a closed regime.
