Guruvayur Sree Krishna Temple records historic 437 weddings in one day

The Guruvayur Sree Krishna Temple in Kerala recorded a historic 437 weddings on a single Sunday, the highest number ever held at the temple in one day. According to Guruvayur Devaswom Board Chairman A V Gopinath, the surge is attributed to the auspiciousness of the first Sunday of the Malayalam month of Chingam.

To manage the massive influx, the temple established six mandapams in the courtyard, facilitating more than 60 weddings per hour. Ceremonies commenced at 4:10 am, with 137 weddings completed within the first two hours. To prevent overcrowding, officials restricted the number of attendees per wedding group to 24 and implemented a token system.

Logistical support included the deployment of over 100 police personnel for crowd management, along with standby medical services and ambulances. Devaswom officials noted that regular devotees faced restrictions on darshan to accommodate the wedding ceremonies, a move supported by the local public.
