Gus Lamont disappearance: One year after boy vanished in Australian outback

One year after four-year-old Gus Lamont vanished from a remote sheep station in the South Australian outback, police investigations remain ongoing without a breakthrough. The child disappeared on September 27, 2025, while playing in a fenced yard at Oak Park Station, approximately 30 miles from the nearest town.

The disappearance triggered the largest search operation in South Australian history, involving hundreds of police officers, military personnel, and specialized drones. Despite efforts to drain three dams and search six mineshafts, no trace of the boy or his clothing was found.

South Australia Police have reclassified the case as a “major crime.” While investigators have ruled out the boy's parents as suspects, they identified inconsistencies in statements provided by family members. Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke noted that an individual residing at Oak Park Station is no longer cooperating with the investigation. One family member, grandmother Josie Murray, has publicly denied any involvement.
