Gus Yusuf proposes transformative service vision for NU

KH Muhammad Yusuf Chudlori, also known as Gus Yusuf, is being highlighted for his vision of ‘transformative service’ for Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) in its second century. An alumnus of Lirboyo, Gus Yusuf possesses extensive experience spanning 28 years in politics with the National Awakening Party (PKB) and decades as a pesantren leader.

His background includes work in education, health, economics, and community empowerment. Notably, he has focused on transitioning traditional pesantren models into modern and super-modern institutions, such as the Subbanul Wathon Integrated International School. His approach emphasizes using political experience as a tool for service rather than a pursuit of power, a principle aligned with the teachings of his mentor, Gus Dur.

In Central Java, his contributions include supporting the development of NU offices at various levels and promoting community welfare through health facilities and economic programs via LAZISNU and Sharia Rural Banks. His diverse expertise is viewed as a foundation for leading the PBNU toward a more progressive future while maintaining organizational unity and kinship.
