Gustavo Cerati: 12 years since the passing of the rock legend

Twelve years have passed since the death of Gustavo Cerati, the influential Argentine musician and frontman of Soda Stereo. Cerati passed away in Buenos Aires on September 4, 2014, at the age of 55, following a 1,571-day coma.

The medical emergency occurred on May 15, 2010, in Caracas, Venezuela, after he performed his final concert as part of his “Fuerza Natural” solo tour. Following the performance, Cerati suffered an ischemic stroke that affected his left hemisphere and brainstem. While he initially regained consciousness, his condition worsened due to cerebral edema, leading to a prolonged coma until his death from respiratory arrest.

Cerati is remembered as a transformative figure in Latin American rock. Beyond his massive success with Soda Stereo, which included landmark albums like “Canción animal,” he maintained a prolific solo career with works such as “Bocanada” and “Fuerza natural.” Throughout his career, he collaborated with numerous prominent artists, including Shakira, Fito Páez, and Roger Waters.
