Gustavo Costas returns to coach Cerro Porteño

Argentine coach Gustavo Costas has arrived in Paraguay to begin his second tenure with Cerro Porteño, replacing Ariel Holan. Costas, who previously managed the club between 2005 and 2007, expressed his enthusiasm for returning to a country he considers his “second home.” His primary objectives include stabilizing the team following recent setbacks in the Copa Libertadores and the domestic league, and working toward qualifying for international competitions.

In his first match following the coaching change, Cerro Porteño secured a 1-0 victory against Resistencia in the round of 32 of the Copa Paraguay. Despite Resistencia creating significant scoring opportunities and nearly taking the lead via an Edsson Riveros penalty save, Jorge Morel scored the decisive goal in the 84th minute with a header. This win allows Cerro Porteño to advance to the round of 16, where they are scheduled to face Rubio Ñu. Costas is expected to make his official technical debut on the sidelines this coming Sunday against Libertad.
