Gustavo Kuerten celebrates 50th birthday

Brazilian tennis icon Gustavo Kuerten is celebrating his 50th birthday. A three-time Roland Garros champion (1997, 2000, and 2001), Kuerten is recognized as the most successful tennis player in Brazilian history.

His professional career included 28 titles, with nearly 20 in singles. A major milestone occurred in 2000 when he reached the number one spot in the ATP rankings, holding the position for 43 weeks. During that year, he also won the ATP Finals in Lisbon by defeating Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras.

Kuerten's legacy continues through the Instituto Guga Kuerten (IGK), a social project he founded. He was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2012 and the Brazilian Olympic Committee Hall of Fame in 2020.
