Gustavo Mendanha Gains Regional Backing for Senate Run in Brazil's Federal District Outskirts
Brazilian PRD pre‑candidate Gustavo Mendanha is consolidating support for a Senate bid in the Entorno do Distrito Federal, a key electoral area for the 2026 elections. Novo Gama mayor Carlinhos do Mangão said discussions with Mendanha are advanced but the final endorsement will be decided collectively by his political group, which also backs Gracinha Caiado.
Mayors, councilors and political leaders from five neighboring municipalities – Luziânia, Cristalina, Valparaíso de Goiás, Cidade Ocidental and Padre Bernardo – are coordinating a large regional meeting, led by Luziânia mayor Diego Sorgatto, to formalise their backing of Mendanha. The area holds the second‑largest electoral college in Goiás, making the alliance strategically important for the upcoming Senate race.
