Gustavo Petro condemns recognition of Israeli sovereignty over Golan Heights
Former Colombian President Gustavo Petro has condemned the decision by the new administration under President Abelardo de la Espriella to recognize Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights. Petro asserted that the majority of the Colombian people, along with much of the international community, view the Golan Heights as Syrian territory.
Petro further alleged that the recent elections were manipulated to install a leadership favorable to Israel and the United States. He claimed that Israeli private intelligence firm Black Cube used algorithms and software to interfere with the electoral process and alter the will of the people. He also identified a lobbying firm, Balart, as having worked to support de la Espriella's candidacy.
In response to the policy shift, which was officially announced on August 10, Petro issued an apology to the Arab world and the Islamic community, citing Qatar's condemnation of the decision.
