Gustavo Petro elected president of Pacto Histórico
Gustavo Petro has been unanimously elected as the president of the Pacto Histórico political movement. The decision was made by the movement's Provisional National Coordination in Bogotá to strengthen its leadership and collective direction.
As the leader of the primary opposition to the administration of Abelardo de la Espriella, Petro and the Pacto Histórico are focusing on a strategy for the 2027 regional elections. The party plans to hold its first internal congress to organize candidates and delegates, aiming to establish itself as a viable alternative for power.
The movement has committed to continuing social mobilizations across all thirty-two departments of Colombia. These protests will focus on demands regarding employment, education, health, housing, and productive development, as well as promoting a 'Pact for Life' to defend democracy and social rights.
