Gustavo Petro warns of electoral interference risks in Mexico and Brazil
Former Colombian President Gustavo Petro has issued warnings regarding electoral integrity in Latin America during a visit to Mexico. Speaking at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), Petro alleged that the recent election of Abelardo de la Espriella was influenced by 'technofascism' and the use of approximately 2 million bots. He claimed the Trump administration intervened in the Colombian electoral process and suggested that the alleged fraud was facilitated through the Colombian Consulate in Los Angeles.
Petro warned that Mexico and Brazil face similar risks of digital manipulation and external interference in their upcoming elections. He characterized these technological methods as a system seeking expansion, noting that they are supported by certain political classes in the United States.
During his visit, Petro also met with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum at the National Palace. Sheinbaum invited Petro to return to Mexico periodically to deliver academic lectures through the Institute of Historical Studies of the Mexican Revolutions. Their discussions covered the impact of artificial intelligence on geopolitics and the organization of international right-wing groups to influence regional elections.
