Gustavo Petro remains central to Colombian political developments
Former President Gustavo Petro remains a central figure in Colombian political discourse following his departure from office. Former Bogotá Mayor Claudia López defended her recent meeting with Petro, stating it was necessary to unite the progressive movement against what she described as an authoritarian and ‘anti-rights’ right-wing government.
In Medellín, Petro criticized Mayor Federico Gutiérrez for a police-led eviction operation in the Manrique sector. Petro claimed the action, which involved the use of tear gas and affected approximately 89 families, was an attempt to ‘hit the people’ and dishonored the police force.
Regarding his personal life, Petro’s temporary stay at the residence of Gustavo Bolívar in northern Bogotá has reportedly caused friction with neighbors. Residents have expressed discomfort due to the increased security presence and frequent helicopter flights around the residential complex.
Simultaneously, Ecopetrol is undergoing a reorganization. Reports indicate that several individuals with ties to the Petro administration, including relatives of political figures, are facing dismissal processes as the company transitions to new leadership.
