Gustavo Poyet targets Algeria national team coaching role

Gustavo Poyet is reportedly interested in becoming the new head coach of the Algerian national football team. To facilitate the move, the Uruguayan technician is allegedly willing to accept a monthly salary of €75,000, which is significantly lower than the more than €150,000 previously paid to former coach Vladimir Petkovic.

Reports indicate that Poyet is open to a one-year renewable contract, a flexible term compared to other candidates who typically demand a minimum of two years. This approach aligns with the Algerian Football Federation's (FAF) goal to manage its budget effectively ahead of the 2027 and 2028 Africa Cup of Nations.

Additionally, the FAF is expected to require that the head coach's assistant be Algerian. Anthar Yahia has already been officially announced for this role.
