Gustavo Scarpa inspires fan-led reading movement at Atlético Mineiro

Football player Gustavo Scarpa has inspired a growing literary movement among fans of Atlético Mineiro. Following his personal passion for reading, supporters created ‘Galeitura’, a reading club that has rapidly expanded on social media, gathering over 700 active readers and reaching more than 100,000 followers.

The initiative focuses on monthly book selections and weekly discussions. The group’s first selection was ‘The Death of Ivan Ilyich’ by Leo Tolstoy. The project has also partnered with Instituto Galo to support book collection campaigns for youth and will host literary events at the Arena MRV.

Scarpa’s influence has extended to the commercial market, with his recommendations helping Tolstoy’s work reach the top of Amazon Brazil’s best-seller list. The movement has also sparked similar reading initiatives among supporters of other clubs, such as Corinthians and São Paulo.
