Gustavo Scarpa’s literary movement gains international attention
Brazilian footballer Gustavo Scarpa has gained international attention for his literary initiative, known as ‘Galeitura’ by Atlético-MG supporters. The movement, centered on his YouTube channel, focuses on book reviews and promoting reading.
French sports newspaper L’Équipe highlighted the movement, noting Scarpa’s journey into literature which began in 2018 while he was playing for Palmeiras. Encouraged by a former intern, Scarpa began receiving books as rewards for decisive performances on the pitch. His recent review of Leo Tolstoy’s ‘The Death of Ivan Ilyich’ helped propel the work to the top of the Amazon Brasil best-seller list. His video analysis of the book has garnered over 740,000 views. Other works reviewed on his channel include ‘Their Eyes Were Watching God’ by Zora Neale Hurston, ‘Night’ by Elie Wiesel, and ‘Lord of the Flies’ by William Golding.
