Gustavo Varela attracts interest from Arsenal and Napoli

Monza striker Gustavo Varela has emerged as a major transfer target following a prolific start to the Serie A season. The 21-year-old Portuguese forward has recorded eight goals in seven appearances across all competitions, including six goals in six league matches.

Arsenal is reportedly monitoring Varela as a potential replacement for Viktor Gyokeres, seeking a more complete striker to bolster their attacking options. In Italy, Napoli has expressed strong interest in the player as they look to reinforce their offensive lineup.

Monza, which acquired Varela from Benfica this summer for approximately €2 million to €2.5 million, maintains full ownership of his registration. However, Benfica retains matching rights, allowing the Portuguese club to equal any incoming bid to bring the player back to Lisbon. Additionally, Benfica is entitled to 20% of any future capital gains realized by Monza from a sale.
