Gustavo Xuxa hospitalized in ICU after cardiac event during training

Gustavo Xuxa, a 33-year-old midfielder playing for Mixto and formerly of Grêmio, has been admitted to an intensive care unit in Cuiabá, Mato Grosso, after experiencing a cardiac event during training.

During a training session on Friday, September 25, Xuxa experienced ventricular tachycardia and required resuscitation by medical staff. He was subsequently intubated as a preventive measure. Medical examinations, including a catheterization, ruled out a heart attack and showed no prior history of known heart disease.

Doctors have diagnosed him with Takotsubo syndrome, often referred to as ‘broken heart syndrome,’ which causes temporary heart dysfunction often linked to physical or emotional stress. The condition affected the tip of his heart. His cardiologist, Fause Chauchar, estimates a recovery period of four to eight weeks, with an approximately 80% chance of full recovery.
