Gusttavo Lima ordered to pay R$ 149,000 over phone number in song

Brazilian singer Gusttavo Lima and his production company, Balada Eventos e Produções LTDA, have been ordered by the Court of Justice of Pernambuco (TJPE) to pay approximately R$ 149,000 in damages to a businessman.

The lawsuit stems from the 2021 song ‘Bloqueado’, which included a phone number in its lyrics. The plaintiff reported receiving over 2,000 text messages and constant daily calls shortly after the song's release, causing significant disruption to his personal and professional life.

While the original court order in 2022 set the indemnity at R$ 70,000, the current amount includes accumulated interest, monetary correction, and legal fees. Although the defense argued that Lima is merely an interpreter and had no role in the composition or the selection of the number, the court ruled that his active promotion of the song contributed to the harm.

The decision allows for the provisional enforcement of the sentence while a new appeal remains under judicial review.
