Gut health insights and colonoscopy destigmatization
Medical experts and public figures are highlighting the importance of digestive health and the connection between the gut and the brain. Sabrina Leal Garcia, a psychiatrist and nutritionist at the Medical University of Graz, notes that Type 4 on the Bristol Stool Scale is considered the optimal stool consistency. She also points out that approximately 90 percent of the body's serotonin is produced in the gut, which influences digestive movement and mood.
To help destigmatize medical screenings, entertainer and physician Eckart von Hirschhausen participated in a colonoscopy for a new ARD documentary. Following a healthy lifestyle of eating vegetables and avoiding processed meats, his examination at the University Hospital Bonn was found to be entirely normal by gastroenterologist Christian Strassburg.
