Gutau garage fire caused by improper ash disposal

A garage fire occurred in Gutau, located in the Freistadt district, on Sunday morning. The incident was triggered when a 45-year-old man emptied the ash from a tiled stove into a plastic trash bag attached to a bin inside a garage.

A neighbor noticed smoke and attempted to access the garage. After being unable to open the garage doors due to a power outage, the individual entered the garage by breaking through a door from the garden. Two men attempted to extinguish the flames using foam fire extinguishers and a garden hose before emergency services arrived.

Three fire departments responded to the scene. The two men involved were treated on-site with oxygen by emergency medical services.
